| I think Title IX has to do with gender equality in college sports. Money and allocations have to be the same for both men and women. So I guess if some college puts a lot of money into their men's football, there's a female soccer team that gets a lot of money too? |

| im in high schoool in indy and my school, in my opinion, is sexist. Every guy sport gets new equipment, uniforms, and lots of fans. But when it comes to girls softball the only support we get is from our parents. They buy our uniforms and equipment. The last time I checked the school is supposed to buy all of that. So you tell me, is my school is sexist? |

| I don't know if "sexist" is the right word. I definitely don't think its fair that they're giving better treatment to the guys than the girls. Lots of high school run around how successful their football team is, and they actually generate a lot of money from it. So, in a strange way, a successful men's team can make more money to go around. Women and Girls have to find ways to grab that money when it's available. Get out there and bring more people to your games, make them popular. I think equality in sport is a great a necessary thing, but at some point, a team or individual has to show that they can play regardless of how good their equipment is and who comes to watch. |

As I understand it, Title IX applies to college and not high school. And at any rate, colleges only need to comply if they want to receive federal funding. So small (or large) private schools don't really have to conform to the laws if they don't want to.
Also, I think Title IX as it applies to colleges is based on the population of men vs. women.
And I don't know about you, but we used to joke that my high school was a communist dictatorship of some kind. Nobody was allowed to sell anything on campus that might compete with the cafeteria or food carts, the only soda machines were Coca-Cola, and the school had been built with an underinflated estimate of students just so they could build "The Pit", a kind of small outdoor ampitheater which was rarely used for anything, instead of enough bathrooms for the amount of students who eventually attended. |

| I am also in high school and i play 3 sports a year, plus many in the summer. I also don't feel like female sports are treated equally, but it's just a matter of working harder to get what we deserve. I am doing a paper on title IX, and if any of you have anything that could help me i would greatly appreciate it. |

Title IX applies to high school and college. As for private schools, there are very few that don't receive at least some federal funding.
The law isn't specifically about athletics, that's just the most debated side effect. When it was enacted, many schools prohibited women from taking some kinds of classes or pursuing some degrees. It was common for women to be barred from taking things like chemistry or attending engineering schools. |

| I go to a private school and we receive no federal funding at all. Our school administration are always having fundraisers trying to stay up on all of our bills. As for sports, us as teammates have to raise money so we can have balls, uniforms, and other equipment. As bad as that may sound our teams are actually pretty good and very competitive, only having two losses so far this year out of seventeen. |

help is on the way! Jessie, female sports are not treated fairly when it comes to overall support from sponsorships, spectator support, and the big-one..the Media, unfortunatley women are disproportionately affected by many health problems due to lack of sports and fitness programs, but more importantly, an attitute that leads to a lifestyle..one of fitness and good health.....media support must be increased in order to excell sponsorships and spectators, which equals more female programs, which equals better health....but, remember, it's all about 'Diva Power'! Rising above the Challenge that society has laid on you! Help is on the way! www.divalasports.com will soon go national! Keep the Power and Rise Above the Challenge!

| Contact the Women's Sports Foundation, www.womensportsfoundation.org and ask to speak with their advocacy coordinator. They investigate all Title IX concerns and will help fight cases if Title IX is being violated. Their website also have a ton of information about Title IX, I encourage everyone to check it out! |
